The Office of Career Guidance (OCG) supports students in the Doctor of Medicine program throughout the process of postgraduate medical training and licensure preparation. Through a range of structured programs and resources introduced early in students’ academic careers, the OCG helps facilitate a smooth transition from medical school to residency training.
Beginning in the basic sciences years in Grenada, the OCG offers seminars, workshops, and other educational activities focused on preparation for comprehensive examinations, USMLE Step 1, examination requirements, and clinical rotation scheduling. In the clinical years, OCG Residency Mentors—active physicians and SGU alumni—guide students through a series of mandatory webinars designed to support preparation for residency training in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions.
The OCG also maintains a comprehensive, searchable online resource hub that provides guidance on examination timelines, elective rotation selection, and residency placement trends, including hospitals and programs that have recently accepted SGU graduates. As part of the Office of Student Affairs, the OCG is staffed by faculty and alumni advisors who provide individualized support in licensing examination preparation, specialty and residency selection, and the residency application process, including ERAS and R-1 Match/CaRMS application pathways in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
