Academic Promotion Review Committee

The Academic Promotion Review Committee (APRC) evaluates the academic progress of all students at the end of each term. Based on its comprehensive review and analysis of the timeline and academic achievement, the APRC advises and/or makes recommendations on students' progress, promotion, and retention in accordance with the established SGS academic standards.  The APRC must be convened within 10 business days of the last regularly scheduled examination of the term/course.

APRC reviews students’ academic performance to determine:

  • Students making satisfactory academic progress, with a GPA of at least 3.0;
  • Students recommended for dismissal after failing to achieve satisfactory academic progress;
  • Students permitted to continue on Monitored Academic Status (MAS) with stipulations to remedy deficiencies within the specific program regulations.

Within 5 business days after the APRC meeting, the Office of the SGS Dean, through the Chair of the APRC, will email an offer to students recommended to be placed on Monitored Academic Status (MAS) or for dismissal, after failing to meet the satisfactory performance.

Students permitted to continue on MAS with stipulations are required to indicate acceptance within 3 business days of the time stamp of the email, by returning a signed copy of the letter. For students permitted to continue, a failure to formally accept the terms of the APRC by the deadline specified will result in a non-registered status and may result in a recommendation for dismissal.

For students recommended for dismissal, the email will describe the reason for the recommendation, detail the student’s options to appeal or to withdraw within 3 business days of the time stamp on the email. Students who do not appeal or withdraw will be dismissed.
