Any student who is late to or misses a clinical skills assessment or a lab examination without a valid excuse should notify their course director of their absence and must contact the Office of Student Affairs to complete the Explanation for Missed Exam form. Students must take a Completion Examination for a missed examination. The Completion Examination will be scored using the same standards as the original assessment; however, students can lose a maximum of all professionalism points on the course, as outlined in the course syllabus and may be referred to the FPAP.
For all assessments where students have individual start times (such as OSPEs/OSCEs/case presentations or Lab Examinations), it is their responsibility to ensure that they are not late or absent. A score of zero will be retained for any exam that is missed and not subsequently completed on the scheduled completion date.
Completion Examinations
All Completion Examinations are held approximately one week after the end of the semester per the master SOM schedule posted by the Office of the University Registrar on the SGU portal. Completion Examinations are only offered on the scheduled date; no additional Completion Examinations will be offered. Students are advised not to make travel arrangements until after the scheduled completion examination date in the event that they have to sit a Completion Examination. Failure to take the Completion Examination as scheduled will result in a failure to complete all course requirements. As a result, the student will earn an F grade for the course.
