St. George’s University School of Medicine (SGUSOM) considers applications from students seeking to transfer from another medical school into the Four-Year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program.
Transfer into Clinical Training (Year 3)
Students who have completed, or are in the process of completing, their pre-clinical coursework at an accredited medical school within a four-year medical curriculum may be considered for transfer into the beginning of SGUSOM Year 3: Clinical Training. Applicants must be eligible to take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 for the first time or have passed USMLE Step 1 on their first attempt. Successful completion of USMLE Step 1 must occur prior to matriculation into Year 3.
Students admitted through transfer into Year 3 are required to complete the SGUSOM clinical curriculum and all applicable requirements for the Doctor of Medicine degree. This includes 80 weeks of clinical studies consisting of core clerkships, additional required rotations, and electives. Transfer students must satisfy all requirements and conditions established under the School of Medicine Transfer Admission Policy and all applicable graduation requirements.
Transfer into Basic Sciences (Year 1)
Students who have completed a portion of their pre-clinical coursework at another medical school and who have not yet attempted USMLE Step 1 may be considered for matriculation into SGUSOM Basic Sciences Term 1.
Advanced standing is not granted for entry into Term 1, and no credit is awarded for prior coursework completed at another medical school. Students accepted into Term 1 are required to complete the full SGUSOM Basic Sciences curriculum and all other applicable academic requirements.
Transfer admission and the applicability of prior coursework are subject to review and approval in accordance with SGUSOM policies and requirements.
