The Bioethics master’s programs are designed to equip students to conduct and publish bioethics research and to educate students for service on and to provide training to IRBs and IACUCs, and to contribute to clinical ethics committees and reviews. The program provides flexibility and support tailored to each student's professional needs. Students may apply directly from a bachelor’s degree program, from SGU’s SOM or SVM program, or from professional employment. The program offers opportunities for practical experience in teaching, research, editorial, and ethics committee work.
The bioethics program includes an introductory research ethics course that has been delivered annually since 1994 and is currently a required course for all SGU MSc students. The program is highly collaborative and underpinned by an interprofessional culture (the program participates in teaching exchanges with other SGS programs, including MScBR (Master’s in Biomedical Research). The master’s in Bioethics embraces the One Health approach to bioethics education and research, is interactive and values diversity. The design caters to student-centric interactive teaching which can be completed online, either part- or full-time and with a flexible timeline, is delivered from a collaborative and interprofessional culture that embraces One Health and provides mentoring that is responsive to the professional needs of the individual student.
