Overview
During the first two years of the MD curriculum, the Performance Data Review Team (PDRT), which is composed of faculty, reviews students' academic performance following each examination. The Academic Promotion Review Committee (APRC), also composed of faculty, reviews students' academic performance at the end of each term and academic phase. Based on its review of each student’s timeline and academic achievement, the APRC makes recommendations regarding student progress, promotion, and retention in accordance with established MD standards.
PDRT Reviews
During its post-examination interim reviews, the PDRT identifies students who are unlikely to meet satisfactory academic progress standards. The Office of the Senior Associate Dean of Basic Sciences refers students identified as academically deficient for academic advising, as appropriate. The Academic Advising, Development, and Support (AADS) division may recommend additional referrals to student support services. Students who are unlikely to meet performance standards by the end of the academic term may also be offered the ITI delivery format of the MD program or the CR option (see the ITI and CR sections).
APRC Reviews
During its end-of-term performance review, the APRC identifies students who are deficient in meeting academic standards. These students may be allowed to remain in the MD program on Monitored Academic Status (MAS), subject to stipulations, or they may be recommended for dismissal. The APRC is convened within 14 business days of the last regularly scheduled examination of the term or course. Students who do not meet standards for progress or promotion are provided with written notification of the committee's decision and any applicable stipulations within 2 business days of the decision.
Students may appeal any recommendation for dismissal.
