Repeated coursework counts toward the qualitative, quantitative, and maximum timeframe calculations.
MD Repeated Coursework Tuition Policy for All Students
All students in the Four-Year MD Program who repeat a course/Term in Terms 1–5 are charged full tuition and fees for all courses/Terms, including repeated courses/Terms. This applies when coursework is repeated because of failing a course/Term, returning from a leave of absence (LOA), or choosing the Credit Remediation (CR) option.
If a student repeats a course/Term because of failure or taking a CR and is unsuccessful in the repeated course, the tuition charges for the repeated course will be reversed. The student remains responsible for administrative fees assessed in accordance with the standard refund policy. For the purposes of this policy, unsuccessful means that the student fails the repeated course or withdraws from the University.
If the student receives federal or private student loans and the tuition reversal results in an overaward, the overaward amount will be returned to the lender on the student’s behalf.
Students who receive scholarships should consult the Office of Institutional Student Financial Assistance and FAIDScholarships@sgu.edu. Questions regarding the tuition refunds or repeated coursework charges should be directed to the Office of the Bursar at bursar@sgu.edu.
Effective for all MD students
Students who take a Leave of Absence within the term are charged the published tuition rates when they return to repeat the coursework.
Students who take a Leave of Absence during a term because of compelling personal circumstances beyond their control may apply for a McCord Scholarship. This partial tuition scholarship is intended to offset some of the tuition costs associated with repeating a term due to an urgent medical leave or other extenuating circumstance. Eligible students may contact the Office of Institutional Student Financial Assistance at FAIDScholarships@sgu.edu to apply.
