The Trust & the Hospital
Sheepcot Medical Centre

Sheepcot Medical Centre has been a training practice for about 15 years. We are fully committed to meeting the training needs of the students/ trainees by opening them to a wide variety of GP roles under supervision. We pride ourselves in maintaining excellent standards of teaching and training through the high skills of our trainers and GPS as well as the highly organised management and administration team. The practice has been awarded for its high standard of teaching and training medical students. The practice serves a population of about 11,000 patients allowing for a very wide range of pathologies- both acute and chronic, patients of diverse age, social, medical and psychological backgrounds. The Practice also has specialised clinics for minor surgery, child health development, contraception, implant and intrauterine device insertion and removal that the student may attend. Furthermore, we have close links with local nursing homes which provide a further wealth of pathology and learning opportunity for the attached trainees. Students will have an allocated clinical tutor whose responsibility it is to oversee their educational needs. The timetables will provide the opportunity for direct patient contact in a supervised setting with the doctors and nurses. They are encouraged to integrate with different team members in primary care, and take part in case-based discussion as well as attending multidisciplinary team meetings and practice meetings as well. Sheepcot Medical Centre has its own conference room and library which can be used for educational development. Furthermore, there are plenty of computer terminals should the student wish to access IT resources to further their educational needs.
