ANGELS IN ARMOR ANIMAL RESCUE FUND (AAARF)

The mission of AAARF is to provide financial relief to those students or faculty members of St. George's University who opt to rescue sick or injured companion animals in need of emergency care and are without ownership. The Angels in Armor Organization of St. George's University is a group of volunteers dedicated to encourage Good Samaritan behavior in our community as well provide an outlet to save the lives of animals that would otherwise be euthanized for lack of financial capabilities. AAARF intends to promote and advance emergency medicine and critical care as a specialty for veterinary students through demonstrations, case studies and lectures.

 

ANIMAL WLFARE AND BEHAVIOR SOCIETY (AWB)

The mission of the Animal Welfare and Behavior Society (AWB) is to promote and foster animal welfare and well being on the island and within the student population at SGU. We aim to provide educational materials and resources pertaining to animal behavior and address common behavioral myths. Through hosting lectures and proactive events we hope to create a progressive approach to understanding animal welfare and behavior. We believe that a knowledge of animal behavior and welfare will be invaluable for us as veterinary students and in our future careers as veterinarians and we hope to provide a collaborative environment that allows us to further explore these topics. We also aim to fundraise for and support in any way we can local organizations that advocate for the welfare of animals in Grenada.

 

EXOTIC AND WILDLIFE SOCIETY (EWS)

The Exotics and Wildlife Society works to increase veterinary knowledge and experience with unique, non-traditional animals for all levels of veterinary students at St. George's University. Our organization focuses specifically on providing opportunities for student learning in the areas of avian, laboratory animal, marine, reptile, wildlife, and zoo medicine. By working with a wide variety of excellent faculty and visiting professors, we are able to offer students lectures, hands-on wet labs and other activities focusing on these diverse categories of veterinary medicine.

 

FERAL CATS PROJECT (FCP)

Feral Cat Project is a student run trap-neuter-release (TNR) organization which provides free sterilization and vaccination to Grenada’s wild felines. Our mission is to improve the health and welfare of feral cats through population control and provide a public health benefit through proper vaccination. FCP provides valuable surgical experience for third year veterinary students and opportunities for faculty and student research. Foster and adoption services as well as medical care are also provided to cats and kittens under executive board discretion.

 

INTEGRATIVE VETERINARY MEDICINE CLUB (IVMC)

The mission of the SGU Integrative Veterinary Medicine Club is to allow students to gain knowledge and understanding of holistic and alternative therapies within the context of veterinary medicine.  The SGU Integrative Veterinary Medicine Club will provide an environment that will enable students to combine the traditional medical knowledge gained in their coursework with alternative therapies such as acupuncture, low level laser therapy, nutritional therapy, herbal medicine, and rehabilitation.  Students will therefore be able to become more familiar with these practices and augment their veterinary knowledge.

 

LARGE ANIMAL SOCIETY (LAS)

The Large Animal Society strives to enhance the veterinary education by conducting hands-on wet labs and lectures significant to large animal profession. Through student representatives from professional organizations such as The American Association of Bovine Practitioners, The American Association of Equine Practitioners, The American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners, and The American Association of Swine Veterinarians, LAS remains current on all major topics of large animal medicine. An island outreach project provides care for the diverse population of large animals on the island.  

 

VETERINARY RADIOLOGY AND DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING CLUB (RDIC)

The Veterinary Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging Club (R&DIC) is an organization dedicated to promoting further education by introducing students to the field of radiology and other imaging modalities such as ultrasound, MRI, CT, etc. The student organization will provide learning experiences geared towards all levels of knowledge and interest. These include hands-on labs, case discussions, seminars and lectures.

 

STUDENTS OF THE AMERICAN VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (SAVMA)

The Students of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) coordinates chapter functions; organizes special lectures and seminars; promotes the exchange of ideas and information among students in all terms within and outside of St. George's University; promotes the development of professional knowledge, ethics and conduct; and represents its members in matters that concern them, both as students and future veterinarians.

 

STUDENT CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF VETERINARY INTERNAL MEDICINE (SCACVIM)

The St. George's University Student Chapter of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine promotes interest in the specialties of cardiology, neurology, oncology, large animal internal medicine, and small animal internal medicine. SCACVIM also supports individuals interested in pursuing residencies and internships in any field by the advancement of knowledge through informative lectures, hands-on wet labs and open forums discussions with our outstanding faculty and visiting professors.

 

STUDENT CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF VETERINARY PATHOLOGY (SCACVP)

SCAVP is a student organization established to promote interest and provide learning opportunities within the field of veterinary pathology. To achieve this mission, the VPC is designed to facilitate student interactions with pathology faculty and board-certified veterinary pathologists. Regularly scheduled learning activities include: guest speakers, various necropsy wet labs, histopathology slide sessions, and career guidance. Wet labs, learning sessions, and guest seminars will revolve around the many different career paths within veterinary pathology: diagnostic pathology, forensic pathology, wildlife and exotic pathology, toxicologic pathology, as well as academia and research.

 

STUDENT CHAPTER OF THE ASSOCIATION OF SHELTER VETERINARIANS (SCASV)

The Student Chapter of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians (SCASV) is a student organization established to advance the practice of shelter medicine by promoting interest and raising awareness among SGU veterinary students. SCASV will achieve this goal, in line with the goals of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians, by providing its members with lectures and hands-on labs taught by professionals currently in the Shelter Medicine field. SCASV will also focus on disseminating valuable resources and current research to those members seeking a future career in Shelter Medicine.

 

STUDENT CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN VETERINARY DENTAL SOCIETY (SCAVDS)

The Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Dental Society of St. George’s University is committed to advancing the knowledge, education, and awareness of veterinary dentistry among veterinarians, students and the public. Through our efforts, we hope to provide a club platform to host wet labs, guest lectures, and social events for the goal of successfully increasing awareness of the importance of this facet of veterinary medicine.

 

STUDENTS OF CANADIAN VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (SCVMA)

The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association is the national and international voice for Canada's veterinarians, providing leadership and advocacy for veterinary medicine. The priority of the organization is to act as a leader on national veterinary issues and animal welfare advocacy.

 

SOCIETY FOR THERIOGENOLOGY (SFT)

The Student Chapter of the Society for Theriogenology works to introduce veterinary students to the practice of reproductive medicine in a wide range of species. Using wet labs, lectures from specialists, and hands-on experience, we provide an educational foundation as well as technical skills for students interested in the field of animal reproduction. Material learned in this club will be applicable for all future practicing veterinarians.

 

ST. GEORGE’S UNIVERSITY STUDENT CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR BLACK VETERINARIANS (SGU SNABV)

The mission of the Student Association for Black Veterinarians (SABV), will be to further the efforts of its parent organization National Association for Black Veterinarians (NABV). The mission of the NABV, through its leadership and members, will be to “build a network of individuals and organizations that advocates, provides support, and cultivates an inclusive community for Black-identifying individuals within veterinary medicine at every level and profession. St. George’s University (SGU) School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM)’s NABV chapter will strive to strengthen and empower the veterinary community on its campus by providing education on cultural competency and appropriation, becoming active participants in service projects & outreach, maintaining visibility within the SGU-SVM and on the island of Grenada. NABV also aims to work in solidarity with other minority communities and develop an alumni network to offer mentorship for current and  prospective Black-identifying veterinary professionals.

 

SPRAY NEUTER POTHOUNDS (SNP)

SNP's mission is to work with Spay Neuter Pothounds in the sterilization of dogs and cats in Grenada. SNP's goal is to leave a PAWSitive impact by providing education to the local citizens of Grenada regarding proper animal husbandry and care, and veterinary services to surgical candidates presented for third year St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine students. We provide short term foster homes for surgical candidates that are rejected due to health problems, so they can be rehabilitated, and surgery can be rescheduled. Long term foster homes are also provided for unwanted puppies that need to find permanent adoptive homes and for severely injured or sick patients that need a place to recuperate.

 

STUDENT VETERINARY EMERGENCY AND CRITICAL CARE SOCIETY (SVECCS)

The objective of SVECCS is to encourage the education and involvement of veterinary students in all aspects of emergency and critical care medicine.  SVECCS covers on-call shifts at the Small Animal Hospital assisting the veterinarians in whatever cases come in.  The organization features various lectures from guest speakers and hands-on wet labs based on real life emergency situations.  SVECCS also offers scholarships, educational reference materials, and give opportunities for internships in emergency and critical care medicine to members.

SVM SUGERY CLUB (SVMSC)

The SVMSC will further the knowledge and skills of the student body by introducing students to the basics of surgery as well as advancements and new techniques being applied to surgery. The SVMSC will provide examples of new and alternative techniques in the surgical field for all species. The SVMSC will collaborate with human medicine and the development of trans-species surgical adaptations.

VETERINARY BUSINESS MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION (VBMA)

The Veterinary Business Management Association is a student driven organization dedicated to advancing the profession through: Increasing business knowledge Creating networking opportunities Empowering students to achieve their personal and professional goals.

 

VETERINARY DERMATOLOGY SOCIETY (VDS)

This club aims to educate and promote the dermatology specialty through the development of knowledge to veterinary students. By exposing students to a variety of skills and techniques taught by board certified dermatologists. Its important to gain an understanding of the importance behind certain differentials and treatments. Students will learn how to feel comfortable with looking at dermatology cases and being able to work through them.

 

VETERINARY STUDENT HERPETOLOGICAL SOCIETY (VSHS)

The mission of the Veterinary Student Herpetological Society (VSHS) is to improve veterinary education in herpetological medicine through the exchange of ideas and educational materials, by educating members about Grenada's unique herpetofauna and by giving members hands-on    experience with the club's live animal collection.  Additionally, as the first international student chapter of the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV), the VSHS strives to promote the conservation of the health and humane treatment of all reptilian and amphibian species through public education, captive breeding and reptilian and amphibian habitat preservation. In March 2008, the VSHS became a registered student organization at St. George's University.

 

WELLNESS, AID, AND GUIDANCE (WAG)

Provide support for animals that are in need of advanced medical treatment. WAG takes in owned and unowned dogs and provides rides, medical treatments/ appointments at the Small Animal Clinic, medications if applicable, and a foster if needed for the duration of treatment. With the help of sponsors, fundraising, and donations, WAG also provides financial assistance to owned cases.

 

WORLD AQUATIC VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (WAVMA)

The Mission of the Chapter is to provide SGU-SVM students with information on aquatic veterinary educational, career and other opportunities, and to develop programs useful for WAVMA to help increase the knowledge, skills and involvement of veterinary students at SGU-SVM, and elsewhere, in aquatic veterinary medicine.
