Effective May 2022, students will be able to be placed into Illinois 3rd year clerkships if:
- passed all curricular requirements and
- are nearing or at timeline requirements and
- have failed their USMLE step 1 exam
or
- passed all curricular requirements and
- are nearing or at timeline requirements and
- cannot obtain a valid VISA to travel to the UK (documentation required)
This would be an exception to the current policy which requires students to have successfully passed USMLE Step 1 to commence clerkships in the United States. Students will be required to complete all pre-placement requirements prior to be confirmed for placement.
Students would be able to only complete required rotations (Internal Medicine, Surgery, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Family Medicine). They would not be allowed to continue into their 4th year until they have passed USMLE Step 1 and have met progression requirements to 4th year.
