Leave of Absence

Students are permitted to take a leave of absence from a program during a given term. Leave of absence is considered within the allotted time for completion of the degree.  Students can complete and submit the Leave of Absence electronic application before the start of the term or during the term. Once approved, the student cannot participate in any academic activity in the program during the period of the approved leave.  Students can take a leave of absence for up to three consecutive terms. To re-enter the program, students on leave will need to register for courses offered in the term immediately after the expiration of the leave of absence. A leave of absence counts towards the student’s academic timeline, which may not exceed 5 years for master’s degrees and 7 years for doctoral degrees.

Students wishing to take an LOA after the start of a term must apply for the LOA by clicking here no later than 5:00 p.m. AST on the Friday before the beginning of the last week of the Term.  If a student submits an LOA request after this deadline, the LOA will not be approved.

Any student who misses the final examination and/or assessment or completion exam and has not requested and been approved for an LOA, will receive a grade ‘0’ on the missing examination(s) or assessment and the course grade will be an F.
