I. Purpose
The MDReady Pathway is a conditional, performance-based entry pathway that allows selected students to demonstrate readiness for the 4-Year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program through direct participation in the first semester of the MD curriculum.
The pathway is designed for students who have demonstrated sufficient academic performance but require validation of readiness for the rigor of the MD program through real-time academic performance.
II. Scope
This policy applies to students approved to participate in the MDReady Pathway.
Students in MDReady are not formally enrolled in the 4-Year MD program unless and until conversion criteria are met. Participation in MDReady does not guarantee promotion or continued enrollment in the MD program.
III. Eligibility
Students may elect or be invited to participate in MDReady if they meet one of the following conditions:
A. Pre-Clinical Program
- Achieved required GPA thresholds for promotion
- Did not achieve a passing score on the PCSCE
B. Post-Baccalaureate Program
- Achieved required GPA thresholds for promotion
- Did not achieve the required aggregate PBSCE score
C. Charter Foundation Pathway (CFP)
- Achieved GPA thresholds of 2.75-2.99 and WMPG 75%-79.50%
- Met or did not meet PCSCE requirements
IV. Program Structure
MDReady consists of participation in Semester 1 of the 4-Year MD program. Students complete the same curriculum and sit the same assessments as enrolled MD students. The semester includes five (5) modular examinations. MDReady students are evaluated after the completion of Module Examination 4 (of 5).
V. Status of Students
MDReady students are considered provisionally enrolled for the purposes of instruction and assessment only. MDReady students do not hold full matriculated status in the MD program unless conversion criteria are met. MDReady students are subject to all applicable academic integrity, professionalism, and conduct standards.
VI. Conversion to Full MD Enrollment
Students may elect to convert to full enrollment in the 4-Year MD program after completion of Module Examination 4.
Conversion Criteria
Students must meet all of the following:
- Achieve a minimum average score of 71.50% across the first four (4) module examinations
- Be in good academic and professional standing
- Receive confirmation of eligibility by the APRC
Upon conversion:
- The student is formally enrolled in the MD program
- The student must complete the remainder of the semester, including Module Examination 5
- The student becomes subject to all MD program policies
VII. Failure to Meet Conversion Requirements
Students with an average score of <71.50% across the first four module examinations are not eligible to continue in the MD program. Such students will be withdrawn from the MDReady pathway at that point.
Students may elect to enroll in the Charter Foundation Pathway (CFP), subject to the following:
- CFP may be attempted once only under this provision
- Students must meet all CFP requirements for subsequent promotion
VIII. Attempt Limits
MDReady may be attempted once only. Students who do not meet MD enrollment criteria are not eligible to re-enter MDReady.
IX. Governance and Decision-Making
The APRC is responsible for:
- determining eligibility for MDReady participation of pre-clinical, CFP and post-bac students
- confirming conversion eligibility
- determining outcomes for students who do not meet requirements
CAPPS is responsible for appeals. All decisions of CAPPS are final unless overturned on appeal.
X. Relationship to Other Pathways
MDReady is an alternative pathway to entry into the 4-Year MD program. It operates alongside:
- Pre-Clinical Promotion Pathway
- Post-Baccalaureate Pathway
- Charter Foundation Pathway (CFP)
MDReady is intended for students who have demonstrated academic capability but require performance validation within the MD curriculum.
XI. Key Principles
- Entry into the MD program must be based on demonstrated readiness as determined by the FSSC
- MDReady provides a performance-based validation mechanism
- Conversion is based solely on objective academic performance and professional standing
- There is no conditional continuation without meeting defined criteria
