Effective January 1, 2026, students in the School of Arts and Sciences will be eligible to participate in commencement ceremonies only if the following conditions are met:
Enrollment Status
- The student must be enrolled in their final term of study, with all degree requirements scheduled to be completed by the end of that term.
Academic Standing
- The student must have no outstanding or incomplete courses required for their degree at the time of commencement.
- Participation will be revoked if the student fails any required course during their final term.
Verification Process for Graduation
- Degree audits will be conducted by the Office of the University Registrar to confirm that all requirements are scheduled for completion by the end of the term.
- Final eligibility for participation will be provisionally confirmed at the beginning of the final term and reconfirmed after final grades are posted.
Failing a Required Course
- If a student fails a required course in their final term, thereby not completing their degree, they will be removed from the list of commencement participants, even if the ceremony occurs before final grades are posted.
- This may include revoking access to the ceremony or exclusion from being called or listed during the event.
Appeals
- Students may not appeal participation based on pending grades or anticipated future enrollment.
Exceptions
- No exceptions will be granted for students with remaining coursework, including internships, theses, independent studies, or unresolved transfer credits.
- Students completing degrees in Summer must participate in the following Spring commencement if eligible at that time.
