Definition of a Course

Structural Requirements


Balance of Instruction and Assessment: Instructional activities must be complemented by valid, reliable assessments of learning outcomes.

  1. Course Schedules: The course schedule should be planned and published ahead of the start of term; this includes the dates for completion examinations and make-up examinations (for SGS). All course grades need to be finalized as soon as possible after the end of the course; but cannot be later than 30 days after the course/term ends. Completion examinations should be scheduled within 7 days of the end of term. Make-up examinations must be scheduled with end of term promotion and appeals in mind and so as a guideline should be within 7-14 days after the end of term and give time for finalization of grades; promotions committee consideration and time for appeal.       
  2. Any substantive changes in modality, workload, assessment or delivery method require prior review by the program or School curriculum committee.
  3. Student Experience Safeguards
    To ensure fairness and educational integrity:
    1. Course and assessment expectations must be transparent, consistent, and communicated to students at the outset.
