CAE’s mission is to improve student persistence, academic performance, and career readiness through coordinated academic support, advising, and career development services.
Support offered:
Math & Communication: - Tutoring and Academic Support is offered in Mathematics and oral and written Communication through the Math Support Services (MSS) and Communication Support Services (CSS) units. MSS supports the development of mathematical competence required for coursework and overall quantitative literacy, while CSS strengthens written and oral communication skills and functional academic literacy.

Students may take advantage of the many resources available to support their learning and wellbeing in School of Arts & Sciences. Students do not need an advisor to refer them for support; they may seek out their own support from a variety of sources:

Following SAS exam performance reviews:
Students identified as having performance below School of Arts and Sciences standards are required to attend post-exam advising meetings. Academic Advisors provide advice specific to the student’s academic program and identify factors influencing performance in order to develop a personalized plan for improvement. These advisors may recommend learning strategies advising or content expert advising from the faculty. Students facing more complex learning or personal difficulties will be referred to the Center, University Health and Wellbeing Center, or the Office of Student Affairs as appropriate.
Following Dismissal and Reinstatement as a result of a successful appeal:
Students who are reinstated following below standard performance are assigned to an Academic Advisor. At the beginning of the term, students are required to meet with their academic advisor to discuss and action the requirements from their reinstatement letter. During this term of academic focus, the advisor meets regularly with the student to assess their progress in achieving their personal learning plan, and to ensure the student is taking advantage of available support and on track for improvement. Students are referred to other advisors and services as necessary.
Following successful progress, but an “at-risk” status due to borderline performance:
Students with weak performance who need to make significant performance improvement within an academic term are assigned to an Academic Advisor. During this term of academic focus, the advisor meets regularly with the student to ensure he/she has a solid plan for improvement and is taking advantage of available support and on track for improvement. Students are referred to other advisors and services as necessary.
