Graduate Faculty are responsible for:
- Fostering the development of excellence in every graduate student.
- Being candid, fair, and committed to the students’ welfare and progress in all aspects (graduate coursework, research and scholarly writing, conference participation etc) of the graduate students’ graduate program.
- Supervising, encouraging, and supporting students conscientiously in their academic endeavours and assisting them in securing research support and seeking professional employment.
- Not discriminating among graduate students on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, marital status, age, ethnic background, disability, religion, national origin, or any other factor unrelated to competence or performance.
- Advising students concerning the ethics of the profession, encouraging the practice of research and publication consistent with ethical standards, and helping students avoid ethically questionable projects.
- Advising students about career opportunities associated with their participation in particular research projects or degree programs.
- Enhancing the educational value of teaching and research assistantships of the students under their supervision.
- Being objective in the evaluation of research and academic performance and will communicate that evaluation fully and honestly to their students.
- Reporting accurately on the competence of students to other professionals who require such evaluations.
- Not permitting personal animosities or intellectual differences with colleagues to impede student access to those colleagues or to interfere with students’ research or progress toward a degree.
- Not engaging in conduct that exploits or demeans students or that could be construed as an abuse of their position.
- Directing all phases of graduate education being accessible during the academic year to students who are under their guidance.
- Ensuring that graduate students are aware of the guidelines for their particular degree programs.
- Ensuring that guidance is provided for developing good hypotheses, research objectives and the inputs required for pursuing the same.
- Ensuring that the goals in number 14 are feasible and realistic and develop a timeline which is achievable.
- Adhering to the guidelines for authorship.
- Ensuring students are registered for the IDGS level courses, as appropriate, each term.
- Ensuring that all grades are submitted on the course site at the end of every term in time for the appropriate APRC meeting.
- Attending the APRC meetings, based on invitation, to share on any issues related to the student’s performance.
