The Academic Progress Review Committee (APRC), which is composed of faculty and chaired by an Assistant/Associate dean of the School of Graduate Studies, reviews the academic performance of students at the end of an academic period. Based on its review of students’ timeline and academic achievement, the APRC makes recommendations about the progress, promotion and retention of students according to the School of Graduate Studies standards.
During its end of term performance review, the APRC identifies students who are deficient in meeting standards. Academic probation is an internal marker placed in a student's progress file by the APRC if they do not meet academic standards as defined by SGS guidelines.
Students not meeting academic standards for more than one term or having multiple Failing courses may be recommended for dismissal. Students have the option to appeal any recommendation for dismissal to the Committee for Academic Progress and Professional Standards (CAPPS).
This committee reports to the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies.
