The Academic Advising, Development, and Support (AADS) division of the Office of Student Affairs coordinates academic advising for students in the MD Program.
During the Basic Sciences, full-time academic advisors and selected faculty advisors provide guidance on academic options, study techniques, individualized study plans, and time management, and refer students to additional support services as appropriate. In addition, all Basic Sciences teaching faculty hold weekly office hours to address content-related questions.
Upon entry into Clinical Studies, each student is assigned a clinical academic advisor through Clinical AADS. Clinical academic advisors are physicians, most of whom are based at affiliated hospitals where students rotate. Advisors review students’ academic progress, identify students at risk of not meeting academic or professional standards, and develop and monitor individualized learning and remediation plans. They also assist with clinical scheduling and timelines, intervene when academic or professional behavior concerns arise, and refer students to appropriate University resources as needed.
