Clinical Academic Advisors
Upon entry into Clinical Studies, each student is assigned a clinical academic advisor through Clinical Academic Advising, Development, and Support (Clinical AADS). Clinical academic advisors are physicians, most of whom are based at affiliated hospitals where students rotate. Clinical academic advisors have no role in student assessment.
Clinical academic advisors offer in-person or virtual guidance throughout the clinical years. They assist students with meeting graduation requirements, planning fourth-year schedules and electives, and preparing for licensing examinations.
Advisors review students’ academic progress, identify students at risk of not meeting academic or professional standards, and develop and monitor individualized learning and remediation plans. They also assist with clinical scheduling and timelines, intervene when academic or professional behavior concerns arise, and refer students to appropriate University resources as needed.
Clerkship Directors
Clerkship directors also provide academic guidance during the formative Mid-Core Evaluation. Students experiencing academic difficulties receive guidance from the clerkship director and are referred to their clinical academic advisor.
