Students in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree can pursue a dual degree with a Master of Science degree in biomedical research. The primary goal of the MScBR component is to provide students with skills in biomedical research to enhance their clinical skills. Adding the MScBR degree to the MD degree enables students to better practice evidence-based medicine, which will result in improved clinical care. Course work includes research design, biostatistics, research ethics, and scientific authorship. The areas of research concentration students can address span the full spectrum of clinical investigations in medicine.
The MD/MScBR Program offers students unique opportunities to work in major teaching hospitals in a specialty relevant to the student’s professional goals, be actively guided by a Supervisory Committee through weekly interaction with subject matter experts, interact one-on-one with a research mentor who is a practicing clinician actively conducting research, participate in an on-going research program on a current topic in biomedical research, be part of a team of researchers and develop collaborative team-working skills, and to develop networking connections with professional colleagues that otherwise might not be possible.
