PSYC 801 - Public Health Psychology

This course integrates health and public health psychology, emphasizing mind/body interfaces that cause and resolve illness and behavioral interventions across multiple ecologies to promote health and well-being.
 

PSYC 804 - Utilizing Psych Research

This course provides a systematic review of empirical research approaches frequently used in psychological research. Through a review of peer-reviewed articles, participants gain knowledge and skills to become more discriminating consumers of psychological research.
 

PSYC 806 - Psychological Assessment

This course introduces the principal techniques of psychological assessment, including supervised practice in conducting psychological evaluations.  
 

PSYC 809 – Assessment and Evaluation of Community Health Program 

This course introduces students to community assessment and evaluation methods, incorporating qualitative and quantitative methods to measure and improve effectiveness in community psychology.
 

PSYC 810 – Family and Group Counseling

This course covers the theoretical bases and practical aspects of working with families and groups.  It covers assessment, diagnosis, and intervention strategies for families and groups.  The course examines groups and the family relationship system, focusing on communication, structural, emotional, and behavioral patterns; the assessment of normal and dysfunctional patterns; and the development and facilitation of various types of groups.  The content covers comparative and contextual study of marriage and family institutions, including couples, gender roles, marriage, divorce, sexuality, parenting, working, multicultural orientations, and other contemporary issues.
 

PSYC 890 - Supervised Practicum Placement 

The Practicum placement is designed to demonstrate the skills and abilities the student possesses and to challenge the student’s self-awareness and impacts on the therapeutic process. The practicum experience allows students to integrate clinical skills with conceptual/theoretical knowledge. This involves the student developing a sense of personal style and blending it with the counseling process and the skills of assessment and conceptualization.
