SVM Clinical Year Four (4) Dismissal Policy

During 4th year clinical training, SVM students are governed by the policies and procedures of the affiliated College of Veterinary Medicine at which they are placed – including those related to academic progress and dismissal.  SGU students who are dismissed from an affiliate program may have an opportunity to appeal the dismissal according to the affiliated institution’s policy. Students who do not appeal the dismissal, OR the appeal is denied by the affiliate school, will also be recommended for dismissal from SGU with an opportunity to appeal. The appeals process within SGU for dismissal during clinical year will follow the same protocols as for appeal of dismissal during the preclinical program including option to withdraw from SGU if the appeal is denied.

If the appeal is granted, the student will be placed on a leave of absence (LOA) and a remediation plan will be developed by the Office of Year Four Clinical Training, Office of Student Success, and the APRC. Once the 4th year student has satisfactorily completed the remediation process, the Office of Year Four Clinical Training will seek placement at a new clinical training site.
