Visa Information for Students Entering the UK Clinical Programme

 

Which type of visa?

There are 2 entry routes that students can use to enter the UK for study; the one you require will depend on how long you are undertaking UK rotations/electives for and what nationality or citizenship you hold.

Rotation length of 6 months (24 weeks) or less

  • ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) required – for non-visa nationals. Apply for before travelling to the UK. Apply for an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) - GOV.UK
  • Visitor Visa required for visa nationals. Apply for before travelling to the UK. The SGU UK Office will provide a supporting letter for your application. When you submit a visa application, all supporting documents listed in the UKVI application form must be submitted at the same time as your application. This is your personal responsibility.

Rotation length of longer than 6 months (24 weeks)

  • Apply for a Student Visa which requires a CAS number issued by the SGU UK Office. Student visa : Overview - GOV.UK
  • Students are required to provide specific information to the SGU UK Office so that a CAS number can be issued. This includes passport number, nationality, date of birth and country of birth.
  • When you submit a visa application, all supporting documents listed in the UKVI application form must be submitted at the same time as your application. This is your personal responsibility.
  • A CAS number CANNOT be issued until a student has been cleared for placement into the UK Clinical programme.
  • UK passport holders do not need a visa to enter the UK

Compliance with the terms of your Student Visa once you are in the UK

On arrival in the UK you must immediately provide the following to the UK Office

  1. A copy of the page in your passport showing your personal details and passport number
  2. A copy of the page in your passport showing your UK visa vignette
  3. A screenshot of your eVisa showing the expiry date or your eVisa digital share code
  4. A signed copy of the Mandatory Information Form which you will receive from your Student Coordinator at your hospital.

You must also immediately report any of the following changes in your circumstances to the SGU UK Office (this is a UKVI requirement):

  1. Contact details, including address, email address and telephone numbers
  2. Any amendments to your clinical placement schedule
  3. Any leave of absence from your clinical rotations and if you leave the UK for any reason.
