Psychiatric Services in Norfolk are provided by Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT), which provides inpatient and community mental health services across the large geographical area of Norfolk and Suffolk.

In the UK the focus of psychiatric care is in the community, with inpatient treatment only used for a small proportion of patients. The aim is to promote genuine recovery to encourage those using the services to regain their lives through dedicated specialist teams who work closely with patients, their carers, their families and other organisations to put together a plan of care which suits each individual person.

The psychiatric rotation in Norfolk offers students an experience across the whole of the patient’s care pathway covering hospital settings and community care as well as a range of specialties including forensic, older adult, learning disability and children’s mental health settings.

Students are exposed to a wide range of mental health issues and receive daily clinical teaching on an informal basis together with organised teaching rounds and benefit from a dedicated SGU Teaching Fellow who provides regular focused teaching sessions and mentoring. Most importantly the rotation offers a friendly and welcoming environment in which to learn.
